I try not to discuss politics here because I have a lot of respect for some people whose views differ completely from my own. More importantly, I don’t imagine any of you care much about my politics.

But I was looking at photos of antique maps, the ones with strange and imaginary sea creatures, and came to a realization. Some of our politicians and electorate seem to have a multitude of fears, leading them to try to isolate and homogenize our country in search of security.

But I think it’s important to note that hundreds of years ago, even though people believed they had much to fear, and many sea monsters to battle, they still got on the boats.
